The Celestron NexStar 4SE Computerised Telescope has Celestron’s signature orange-tube and combines advanced features and excellent optics in one easy-to-use system. It is the perfect choice for your first serious telescope, offering striking views at an economical price.

The NexStar 4SE's 4-inch primary mirror packs enough light-gathering ability to observe the best that the solar system has to offer: Saturn’s rings, the cloud bands on Jupiter, and geographic features on the surface of the Moon. When it comes to deep sky objects, take your 4SE to a dark-sky site, and you will see hundreds of pinpoint stars in the Hercules Globular Cluster, the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy, and more.

We know the best telescope is the one you will use most often. That is why Celestron's engineers created NexStar SE's unique, patented single fork arm mount. It is perfectly portable and makes setup quick and easy. What is more, the NexStar SE breaks down into several lightweight and compact pieces, making it easy to transport, even in small vehicles. You will have no problem getting the NexStar SE to your favourite observing site, or setting it up quickly in your backyard.

Of course, it is what is inside the mount that really counts. Sturdy construction from high-quality components give NexStar SE the pointing and tracking accuracy needed to observe and follow your favourite targets with push-button ease. Use the included NexStar+ hand control to locate over 40,000 celestial objects, or take a Sky Tour and let your telescope show you the best objects currently visible.

Aligning your telescope is simple and painless thanks to SkyAlign. This process makes alignment easy: just centre three bright objects in your eyepiece and press ALIGN. For even easier alignment, attach our StarSense AutoAlign and your NexStar SE aligns itself.

The NexStar SE is compatible with all the high-tech accessories advanced users love. Provide GPS coordinates to your telescope with SkySync, or add automatic alignment functionality with StarSense AutoAlign.

Its built-in wedge allows you to track long exposures. From your first observing session and for years to come, the NexStar SE is your trusted companion.

Celestron Nexstar 4SE go-to Telescope.
19 February 2021  |

Only very recently been able to set up this scope due to Weather conditions but so far I am overall pleased with it. The Go-to mount works very well and is impressively accurate if set up correctly. The Tripod is very stable and secure. Deep-sky objects are a little disappointing but to be fair I am still experimenting with various lenses so the jury is still out. Lunar observing is impressive with the bundled 25mm lens. I used a fairly low budget 2 x Barlow lens to view the Orion Nebula but having only really observed with 20 x 80 binoculars it is difficult to make a real comparison.
It would be interesting to re-visit this review in a few weeks when I have been able to really test it which to be fair, up to now I have not.
Overall I am pleased but I do have the sneaking feeling I may upgrade at some stage in the future - with hindsight I wish I had purchased the 5" version as the extra aperture would be hugely beneficial to what is essentially a very good chassis, mount and Tripod.

Good product
14 February 2021  |

ALthough the skies haven't been conducive to using my purchase much since buying it I can confirm that this is a well built quality product. The tripod is substantial and sturdy and there's no chance of the legs flexing as can happen with cheaper tripods I've seen and read reviews about. It's too early to comment on the optics as I haven't had enough to go on at present.
The only downside I have found with this scope is the fact that you can only slew it using the motors and I would have preferred to be able to do this manually at times.

Very good telescope
31 May 2020  |

Very compact and you can use it also as a tabletop telescope.

Bright and sharp images. As it is a Maksutov high focal ratio telescope it works best for high magnification planetary and moon observations. Less suitable for low magnification views of bright stars as cassegraine types sometimes show a bit of ghosting with bright stars like Vega. However, I only noticed it with the included 25mm Plossl and not when using a Celestron Omni 15mm eyepiece.

Works with 8 AA Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries. So, you do not need to use alkaline batteries.

Overall, I am pleased with my first impression.

Good starting Telescope
04 January 2013  |

Happy with the purchase. Reckon this is a fantastic little telescope for beginners. Very small and quick to assemble, and get you started on astronomy.
Can see the moon in full and catch a glimpse of Jupiter with its moons as dots with the shipped 25 mm eye piece. Recommend to complement it with a 6 mm eye piece, allows you to distinguish individual crater on the moon. Also good for beginner astro-photography. It has a wedged mount unlike most other Nexstar SE telescopes excepts the 5SE, so it can be polar aligned. Also bought an universal T-Adaptor with a Nikon T-Ring, attached a Nikon DSLR and starting shooting on the first night. However, should have bought the T-Adaptor-C90 (93635-A), as this allows the Nikon DSLR to connect to the rear of the tube, instead of the eye-piece.
