Velbon has been recognised as a leader in the design, development and manufacture of tripods of the highest quality. The Velbon Ultra REXi L tripod has the Velbon patented Trunnion legs (5 sections) to create a tripod just 36cm long when folded. It can then extend by 4.25 times its size, giving an extended height of 153cm. Its solid construction and 30mm top leg sections give outstanding support. It has a professional recommended load capacity of 4Kg and can keep its weight down to 1.3kg using magnesium alloy components .
Because it has multi-angle legs, the REXi L is very useful for macro photography, and using on uneven surfaces. It has a 2 section centre removeable column, with quick-lock lever and will accept any tripod head with 1/4" or 3/8" thread to make your own perfect combination.
It is supplied with a case that can also accommodate a range of tripod heads.

- A compact solution Review by DA Wessex

I needed a sturdy compact tripod which could be pressed into use when travelling light. There is a trade-off when combining small size with stability. The Velbon Ultra REXi L tripod was the one I chose after much research. It is relatively compact when closed and a useful stable height when open. I welcomed the fact that I was not buying a tripod head in a kit, because I already had a head suitable for it.Build Quality Value For Money Overall Rating
It is early days but so far it is working well, is stable, even in windy conditions when I hang a small shoulder bag from the neck. (Centre column slightly raised to make space for the strap)
Opening the tripod calls for long arms to achieve extension and locking in one movement. But the trick is to grasp the bottom grip, unlock all sections in one anti-clockwise movement and extend the legs; then lock them as a set, all in one clockwise movement. If you fail to do this, there is a certain amount of fiddling to extend, match and lock individual legs. There were no instructions with the tripod, so my note might help new owners. Highly recommended! (Posted on 03/02/2012)
