Binoculars are available in a wide range of types and sizes from brands such as Celestron and Summit. The shape and size of binoculars is derived from the prism they utilise. Celestron and Summit Binoculars use BAK-4, ROOF and PORRO prisms. Binoculars from Summit and Celestron can be used for a range of activities including Birdwatching, Sailing and Hiking.
Binoculars are usually described with a set of numbers such as 10x50. The first figure (10) describes the magnification, meaning the image seen through the binoculars would be 10x bigger than when just viewed with the naked eye. The second figure (50) refers to the diameter of the objective lens in millimetres and determines the light gathering capabilities of the binocular.
