A battery grip is an accessory for a SLR or DSLR camera which will hold additional removable batteries or an integrated battery pack.
The use of a battery grip will extend the the battery life of the camera, an attached battery grip also features a vertical hand grip with an extra shutter release (and sometimes other controls), to assist when shooting portrait photography. Some models also include a remote control.
The battery grip usually attaches to the camera body through the cameras own battery compartment and often includes a cassette to hold additional batteries to increase the length of time you can use the camera.
Each particular model of battery grip is designed to fit only one or a small number of specific camera models, since they must match the host camera body shape, connectors & power requirements.
